Shelters Open in the Metro Area
PEARL, Miss. -- Mississippi Emergency Management Agency officials have given the OK to open several shelters around the state. Several more shelters will open on Sunday, officials said.
The shelters that opened Saturday are as follows:

MC Collects Supplies for Clinton Public School Children
(11 Aug 2008) Mississippi College faculty, staff and students are donating pencils, notebooks, folders, markers and other classroom supplies to benefit youngsters in the Clinton Public Schools.
The items are being collected through the end of the month at MC's Community Service Center. All types of supplies are needed, said Shari Barnes, director of the center at the B.C. Rogers Student Center.

The 5-year-old daughter of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman was struck and killed Wednesday by a sport utility vehicle driven by her brother, authorities said.
The girl, Maria, was hit in a driveway on the family residence Wednesday afternoon by a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by her teenage brother, said Laura McPherson, a spokesman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
